ABUTILON

FLOWERING SHRUB. These attractive greenhouse shrubs, with hanging flowers, are semi-climbers. They may be planted outdoors against a sunny wall or fence at the end of May. Abutilon vitifolium bears large purplish-blue flowers in May and may reach 15 ft. A. striatum Thompsonii has variegated leaves and orange-red flowers. It grows to about 3 ft. The various named hybrids include Boule de Neige (white), Firefly (dark red) and Queen of the Yellows (yellow). Abutilons are increased by cuttings of the old wood taken in August.
