P. These tuberous-rooted plants with funnel-shaped flowers borne on rather weak stems and in a wide colour range are only suitable for a warm greenhouse, where they are most effective grown in hanging baskets.

They like a moist atmosphere and must be watered copiously until a few weeks after flowering. The tubers are started into growth from February onwards and transferred to the hanging baskets when about 2 in. high, using sandy loam reinforced with well-decayed manure. Achimenes may be increased by leaf cuttings, all the leaf stalk being buried in the compost.
