BARK RINGING

This operation is carried out in late April or early May on apple and pear trees to check over-vigorous growth and encourage heavier cropping. Stone fruits such as plums must not be treated as gumming, etc., may follow. Gut out a ring of bark about 4 in. wide and down to the hard wood of the trunk. The ring should be made about 2 ft. from the ground and the scar covered immediately with adhesive tape.
