P. Belamcanda chinensis is a tuberous-rooted, herbaceous perennial growing to about 3 ft. It has narrow, sword-shaped leaves, the flowers being orange with purplish-brown spots and produced in early summer. Prefers a light, sandy soil with plenty of compost or other humus-forming materials. Protect in winter with ashes, bracken or cut Michaelmas daisy tops. Increase by division in March.
