BOX

In many formal gardens, box (Buxus sempervirens suffruticosa) retains its hold for edging purposes. When planting, which is best done in September, a rich, deeply dug soil is advisable as box is a heavy feeder. It flourishes on chalky soils. Clipping should be undertaken in May or June; for young plants only the tips need snipping off. Increase by division in March or September.
