Cineraria cruenta (Senecio cruentus) 8°C/46°F; Canary Islands

A superb perennial flowering plant, producing masses of daisy-like flowers in a range of bright colours. It is best treated as an annual and discarded after it has passed its best. Easily raised from seed sown at any time in the spring in cool conditions -April sowings will, if you are fortunate, provide flowering plants for late December. Indoor plants when mature should enjoy lightly shaded and airy conditions, and should be kept just moist and well-fed with a balanced liquid fertilizer.
