Convallaria- Lily of the Valley

Attractive perennial ground-cover with delightfully scented flowers.

Situation:

Practically every garden has a shady, not too dry corner, where these lilies can naturalise. They will flower in increasing profusion.

Soil:

Humus-rich, generously manured soil; it must be on the acid side.

Propagation:

After a few years the rootstocks are easily divided. Convallaria can also be grown from seed.

Convallaria majalis: Height 15-25 cm; clusters of bell-shaped, scented white flowers in late spring. The broad, evergreen leaves are sharply pointed. ‘Plena’ has double flowers, white; ‘Rosea’, also double, but pink;’Variegata’ has yellow-white foliage streaks.
