P. Convallaria majalis bears fragrant, white, bell-shaped flowers in April and May. It does best in a cool, shady spot, the soil being enriched with compost and leaf mould. There is a double form, and also a pink variety which is decidedly less attractive than the type. Plant the crowns singly in October about 6 in. apart, covering with 2 in. of soil. Do not disturb until the clumps deteriorate, then replant as above.
