Daphne- Beautiful small shrubs with striking flowers.

Situation:

Because of its modest dimensions it is very suitable for small gardens. The colours look well in combination with others.

Soil:

Acid, humus-rich, but porous, soil.

Propagation:

Species from seed, cultivars from cuttings.

Daphne X burkwoodii: Grows to over 50 cm; white or rose-pink flowers in late spring and early summer. A par-ticularly fine hybrid, especially ‘Somerset’, to 1 m, rose pink.

Daphne cneorum: Height to 30 cm; rose-pink flowers in late spring and early summer. A fine rock plant. Daphne mezereum: Height to 1 m; the purple-pink flowers appear before the foliage as soon as early to mid spring, and are followed by poisonous red berries. ‘Alba’ has white flowers and yellow berries; ‘Ruby Glow’ produces large, purple-red flowers.
