Doronicum – Leopard’s Bane

Early flowering hardy perennials.

Situation:

A strong border plant, sometimes planted in

front of shrubs.

Soil:

Any reasonable garden soil.

Propagation:

By division.

Doronicum orientale: Height 30-50 cm; flowering season from mid to late spring; single yellow flowers. In the variety Truhlingspracht’ the flowers are double. Doronicum pardalianches: Height 80-100 cm; yellow flowers in twos or threes in early to mid summer. Very rampant plant.

Doronicum plantagineum: Height 80 cm; deep-yellow flowers in mid spring to early summer. ‘Excelsum’ is very suitable for cutting. This strain will grow to as much as 1.5 m and therefore needs careful staking.
