Eremurus- Foxtail Lily

A perennial with tuberous roots; not entirely winter-hardy.

Situation:

They make unusual specimen plants standing out from lower growth. In spring they require a great deal of water, but after flowering the plants must be kept much drier; excess moisture in winter is fatal. Protect against frost and plant in full sun.

Soil:

The rootstocks must be planted with great care in very well-drained, enriched soil.

Propagation:

From seed. The plants will flower after 3-4 years.

Eremurus elwesii: Height to 200 cm; soft lilac-pink flower spikes in late spring and early summer.

Eremurus himalaicus: Height 1-2 m; white flowers tinged with brown on the outside in early summer.

Eremurus stenophyllus: Height to 40-70 cm; dense yellow flower spikes in early to mid summer.
