GORDONIA

FLOWERING SHRUB. Rather difficult to start, but once established in loam, leaf mould and sand, gives fine white cup-shaped blooms. Plant in spring in sheltered position in mild districts such as the south-west, elsewhere in tubs in any reasonably large greenhouse. Increase by layering in sand in early autumn, not disturbing for six months. A 10 ft. variety, with fragrant blooms continuing till autumn, is the evergreen G. lasianthus.
