Very easily grown plants the gynuras should have a light situation to encourage their purple colouring. To prevent plants becoming too straggly the growing tips of shoots should be periodically removed. Feed regularly, avoid getting the loam- or peat-based soil too wet for long periods and they will give little bother. G. aurantiaca is larger and more vigorous than the better form G. sarmentosa, which eventually requires support, or it may be allowed to trail if grown in a hanging basket. Flowers have an unpleasant odour so should be removed as they appear. New plants are easily raised fromtaken at almost any time of the year.
