About 50 species of this remarkable flowering shrub and tree are found in tropical America but only one — J. mimosifolia — is usually cultivated in this country, mainly for the finely cut foliage, although the drooping blue flowers are very attractive, and the wood decidedly fragrant. A warm greenhouse is essential. Grown in a large pot or in the greenhouse border, it will reach 8 ft. or more. Increase by cuttings of half-ripe shoots in early summer in sand and peat.
