LIATRIS

P. Plant in light soil in dry situation, starting seed under a cloche or in greenhouse in spring. The purple flowers appear in July and open first at the top of the spike and work downwards. Liatris spicata and pycnostachya are popular species, the former 2 ft., the latter 3 ½ ft. Increase by spring division. Its popular names are Kansas gay feather and blazing star.
