P. The popular L. chalcedonica is 3 ft. high and bears large dense heads of bright scarlet flowers, from June to August. L. coronaria (Agrostemma coronaria) is a handsome plant (with several varieties) bearing fine cluster of large flowers with fringe-like edgings, and varying in colour through many shades of red to white. Height about 2 ft. All do well in a warm situation and on a light soil. They may be raised either from seed or division in spring, and are improved by occasional transplanting.
