Grow in fertile soil in moist situation. Mimulus cardinalis bears orange-red flowers from July to September growing to 2 ft. M. cupreus Fircflame is coppery-scarlet with an orange throat to about 8 in. M. luteus is golden-yellow with reddish-brown spots, to about 15 in. Mimulus species and varieties may be increased by division in spring. The old-fashioned scented musk found in nearly every cottage garden is Mimulus moschatus. No one has yet discovered why the fragrance suddenly vanished and it is impossible nowadays to buy plants which are scented.
