NECTARINE

The growing of nectarines in the open is similar to that of peaches — see PEACH — though information on outdoor culture in this country is very scanty. Nectarines have smooth, tender skins, unlike peaches, which are downy; they are rather smaller and the flavour is generally less sweet. Thinning should not be so drastic as with peaches. Good varieties include Early Rivers, Elruge, John Rivers and Lord Napier.
