T. Propagate by division in April, by suckers in September or by seed. Palms should be potted in a compost of silver sand and fibrous loam or of grit and fibrous peat during spring or early summer. Take care not to injure the roots. Give plenty of water during summer, much less in winter, though the soil must not be allowed to dry out, and sponge the leaves with warm soft water. In hot weather place in a shady spot and give a little cow manure and soot well diluted (1 in 20) in liquid form. Chamaerops humilis is a miniature species reaching about 8 ft., which can be planted outdoors in the south-west of England. It is the only palm found wild in Europe.
