PHYSOSTEGIA or OBEDIENT PLANT

P. Attractive border perennials, with erect spikes of tubular-lipped rosy-lilac or white flowers on a 3 ft. plant in late summer. Vivid is shorter (about 2 ft.), blooming well into autumn. Rose Bouquet is a paler edition of Vivid. Called the obedient plant because when individual flowers are moved sideways they stay put. Physostegias grow freely on most soils, and often spread rapidly. Increase by detaching the wandering roots and replanting.
