P. These are litde-known bulbous plants belonging to the iris family (Iridaceae) and somewhat like crocuses, except for the longer flower stalks. Romulea bulbocodium bears funnel-shaped, yellow and violet flowers on 6 in. tall plants in June. Romuleas are only hardy in very mild districts, are best planted under a south wall in light, rich soil. Increase by detaching the offsets in September.
