SOLDANELLA

P. Delightful rock plants, usually with bell-shaped fringed flowers which bloom in early spring. They prefer cool, well-drained, leafy soil and are increased by division after flowering. Soldanella alpina has rich lavender bells, spotted with crimson on the inside and borne on 4 in. stems. S. montana is taller, to about 6 in., colour rather similar. S. pindicola is rare in cultivation. It is again lavender but the undersides of the leaves are pale grey.
