TAR-OIL WINTER WASHES

These are insecticides which are applied to fruit trees during the dormant period in early winter to destroy the eggs of aphids, suckers etc. They also have a certain cleansing action, and will rid trees of moss and lichen . In recent years winter washes have been largely supplanted by modern synthetic compounds such as gamma-BHC and Pyrethrin which are applied as an alternative treatment in early spring and are, incidentally, more economical in use.
