P. A most attractive herbaceous perennial which grows to 18 in. with heads of tiny mauve flowers in summer, resembling a gypsophila. It is not reliably hardy, except possibly in very mild districts, but is easily grown in a greenhouse, seed being sown in February (temperature about 55 degrees F.). Although trachelium can be increased by cuttings, it is more usual to raise fresh stock annually from seed.
