TRAPOGON

This genus includes Trapogon porrifolius, the vegetable known as salsify or vegetable oyster , also Trapogonpratensis, a biennial to about 2 ft., which is naturalised in Britain and grown in gardens in America. It is also known as goat’s beard, Jack-go-to-bed-at-noon and shepherd’s clock, The yellow flower-heads close up at noon, irrespective of weather conditions.

TRICHOMANES, BRISTLE, FILMY or KILLARNEY FERN P. This group of ferns is usually grown in a cool greenhouse, demanding good drainage, a humid atmosphere, shoal and a mixture of peat, loam and leaf mould.

Trichomanes radicans, the true Killarney fern, grows in shady corners near streams and rivers in Ireland.
