FLOWERING SHRUB. Also known as Criniodendron hookerianum, this gorgeous evergreen shrub is only hardy in really mild districts. Elsewhere it should be planted against a south or southwest wall. It sometimes succeeds on an east-facing wall but must have a shelteredand a warm, lime-free soil. The hanging resemble crimson lanterns, and are borne in profusion along the branches in early summer. Mulch with damp peat etc. in dry weather. Increase by of half-ripe shoots in August.
