VERBASCUM or MULLEIN

These are border plants, some biennial, others perennial, though usually not very long-lived. The latter are increased by root cuttings in early spring. Verbascuni broussa is a biennial with silvery, wood-like foliage and bright yellow flowers almost 1 in. across in June and July. Height 5 ft. Self-sown seedlings are frequent. Named varieties include Pink Domino mauve-pink to 4Y2 ft.> Mother of Pearl blush-pink, Gainsborough primrose-yellow to 4 ft., Cotswold Beauty buff-pink, 3 ½ ft. V. vernale (chauxii) reaches 5 ft. and is bright yellow with rose-coloured stamens.
